초록

Ozone is a gas molecule capable of killing microorganisms such as yeast, mold, bacteria, and protozoa. However, its instability makes it difficult to use directly. To effectively harness ozone, vegetable oil can be employed. Ozone reacts with the C-C double bonds of fatty acids, converting them into ozonated oil. This reaction generates ozonides within the fatty acids, imparting various biological functions to the resulting ozonated oil. Additionally, ozone is highly chemically active and can cause oxidation by reacting with organic solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, etc., producing compounds with strong antibacterial effects against harmful microorganisms. In this study, we evaluated the antibacterial effect and eye mucosal irritation safety of ozonated olive oil, demonstrating its potential as a cosmetic raw material. Ozonated olive oil was prepared to test its antibacterial activity and applied to Trichophyton rubrum (Castellani) Sabouraud and Cutibacterium acnes. The strong antibacterial effect of ozonated olive oil was confirmed, and its safety was verified through BCOP assay. These results suggest that ozonated olive oil can be effectively used as a cosmetic ingredient.
