초록
We evaluated the antimicrobial efficacy and cosmeceutical activities of steam distillation (COSD) and supercritical CO2 (COSC) extracts from Chamaecyparis obtusa (Siebold & Zucc.) Endl. leaves to investigate their potential as functional cosmetic ingredients. The total polyphenol content of COSD and COSC was found to be 227.63±7.43 and 244.56±22.05 GAE mg/g, respectively, indicating that COSC contained higher amounts of polyphenols. In the DPPH radical scavenging assay, COSD showed activities of 0.9% and 3.7% at concentrations of 2,500 and 5,000 μg/ml, respectively, while COSC exhibited activities of 55.0% and 82.9% at the same concentrations, indicating that COSC had higher antioxidant efficacy than COSD. In the ABTS+ radical scavenging assay, COSD showed activities of 15.9% and 25.8% at concentrations of 2,500 and 5,000 μg/ml, respectively, while COSC exhibited activities of 90.0% and 99.4% at the same concentrations, indicating that COSC had superior antioxidant efficacy compared to COSD. Evaluation of antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa revealed that COSD demonstrated superior efficacy to the positive control MP (methylparaben) against S. epidermidis and E. coli, while COSC showed superior efficacy to MP against E. coli. Based on these results, Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf oil, with its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, demonstrates potential as a functional cosmetic ingredient.
