도핑과 승부조작으로 대표되는 선수의 도덕성 퇴보는 스포츠의 근간을 위협하는 심각한 사안이며, 이를 극복하기 위해서는 선수 윤리의 정당성과 실천적 의의를 체계화하는 담론적 접근이 요구된다. 본 연구의 목적은 ‘스포츠 선수는왜 윤리적이어야 하는가'라는 근본적인 질문을 탐구하고, 이를 바탕으로 스포츠 선수들에게 요구되는 도덕적 의무를도출하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 먼저 스포츠에서 경쟁의 긍정적·부정적 측면을 살펴보고, 비판적 시각이 경쟁의 도덕적·사회적 기능까지 축소한다는 점을 한계로 분석하여 스포츠 경쟁의 균형 잡힌 본질을 탐색하였다. 또한, 도핑 사례를 아리스토텔레스의 이성과 비이성의 조화 개념으로 분석하여, 경쟁이 도덕성과 규칙 준수를 통해 조화롭게 이루어질 때 비로소 탁월성을 실현할 수 있음을 논증하였다. 다음으로, 승부조작 사례를 칸트의 보편적 도덕 법칙 관점에서 분석함으로써, 스포츠 선수에게 윤리적 행동이 왜 필수적인지에 대한 정당한 근거를 제시하였다. 끝으로, 스포츠선수들의 윤리적 문제 행동 해결을 위해 정직성, 책임감, 공정성을 도덕적 의무로 도출하고, 이러한 의무들을 실현하기 위한 구체적인 교육적·제도적 실천 방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구가 스포츠 선수들의 비윤리적인 행동을 예방하고, 존중과 페어플레이 정신이 구현될 수 있는 경쟁의 장(場)을 형성하는 데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The decline in the morality of athletes, represented by doping and match-fixing, is a serious issue that threatens the foundation of sports, and in order to overcome this, a discursive approach that systematizes the legitimacy and practical significance of athlete ethics is required. The purpose of this study is to explore the fundamental question of ‘Why should athletes be ethical?’ and, based on this, to derive the moral obligations required of athletes. To do so, we first examined the positive and negative aspects of competition in sports and explored the balanced nature of sports competition by analyzing the limitation that critical perspectives reduce competition to its moral and social functions. We also analyzed the case of doping in terms of Aristotle's concept of harmony between reason and irrationality, arguing that excellence can only be realized when competition is harmonized through morality and rule compliance. Next, the case of match-fixing is analyzed in terms of Kant's universal moral law to provide a justification for why ethical behavior is essential for athletes. Finally, in order to resolve the ethical problems of sports players, honesty, responsibility, and fairness were derived as moral obligations, and specific educational and institutional practices were proposed to realize these obligations. It is hoped that this study will contribute to preventing unethical behavior of athletes and creating a competitive arena where the spirit of respect and fair play can be implemented.
