도핑에 관한 아리스토텔레스주의적 접근

이 연구는 아리스토텔레스의 사상을 통하여 스포츠에서 윤리적 논쟁의 대상이 되고 있는 도핑문제에 관한 비윤리성을 논증하기 위한 연구이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 도핑은 공동체의 관계에서 발생하는 침해 중에서 숙고하지 못한 결과로 발생하는 부정행위에 가깝다. 또한 선수들이 약물복용을 하는 것은 강인한 절제를 통한 내부적 쾌락보다는 물질적 보상으로부터 주어지는 외부적 쾌락에 더 심혈을 기울이기 때문인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 한편, 반도핑의 입장을 고수하기 위해 아레테가 지닌 두 가지 개념을 통해 도핑이 반칙행위임을 증명하고자 하였다. 첫 번째 아레테가 지닌 개념은 탁월성으로서 유기체로서의 인간이 지닌 기능의 뛰어남을 의미한다. 이러한 관점에서 도핑은 인간이 지닌 기능의 탁월성에 역행하는 행위로서, 체계적인 훈련에 의해 향상 될 수 있는 잠재적 능력의 가능성을 방해하는 행위로 정의된다. 두 번째 아레테의 개념은 덕의 특수한 성질로 정의되어지는 중용과의 관계를 통해 구명되었다. 이를 통해 도핑은 과도와 부족의 양극단에서 중용으로 설명되어질 수 없는 절대적으로 비도덕적인 행동이라는 결론을 도출하였다. 이상과 같은 연구결과는 오늘날과 같이 도핑을 반칙행위로 규정하고 있는 스포츠사회의 반도핑 입장에 이론적 배경을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
This paper was approached about doping issue, which has been ethically raging in sport based on Aristotle's philosophy. The result of this research is as follows: doping is an injustice act which is act in knowledge, but without previous deliberation. The reason of drug taking is because athletes need pleasure to be added as some sort of extra decoration than its pleasure within itself through self- control of temperance. To argue that doping is an unethical behavior, I cited two notions of arete. First concept of arete, excellence, should be able to say that excellence for human beings involves function well including the performance of skillful action. In this point of view, doped athletes are explained that they reject their own potential and cannot show theirs natural abilities, which have the possibility of being developed through training. Second one is defined by the connection with the golden mean, which is some intermediate between excess and deficiency. By considering doping in the golden mean, I suggested that doping is morally an injustice behavior like murder, theft, and so on, which cannot be described in terms of excess and deficiency. Accordingly, I argued that doping clearly unethical and that current prohibitions should keep in place.
