Abstract
This study takes Krashen’s “Input Hypothesis” (i+1) as the core framework and designs as well as implements a teaching plan tailored to the actual needs of Korean university students learning beginner-level Chinese. The participants were 20 students in an elementary class at Dong Seoul University, and the teaching theme focused on the scenario of “shopping at a fruit store.” The teaching materials included textbook texts and authentic shopping videos from YouTube. The teaching process, from preparation before class, to instructional steps, and post-class reflection, fully embodies the “i+1” principle. Results show that a teaching design based on the i+1 theory significantly enhances learners’ language acquisition, sentence pattern application, and cultural understanding. Overall, the i+1 theory proves both feasible and effective in beginner Chinese teaching and offers directions for future optimization.
