중등 과학 예비교사의 인식에 기반한 교육봉사활동 교과의 운영 실태 분석: 수업 실행을 중심으로

최근 사범대학의 교육과정에 도입된 교육봉사활동 교과는 교육실습과 마찬가지로 예비교사들의 실제적인 수업 능력의 함양을 중요한 목표 중 하나로서 고려하고 있다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 교육봉사활동 교과의 충실한 운영과 효과를 제고하기 위하여 수업 실행과 연계된 교육봉사활동에 초점을 맞추어 관련 실태를 예비교사들의 인식을 통해 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 사범대학의 과학교육과에 재학 중인 30명의 중등 과학 예비교사들을 대상으로 설문 조사를 하였다. 연구 결과, 대부분의 예비교사들이 교육봉사활동 교과 운영의 목적을 비교적 올바르게 이해하고 있었지만, 자신의 역량을 단순히 사회에 기부하거나 취업을 위한 이력 쌓기 활동으로 이해하고 있는 예비교사들도 있었다. 또한 예비교사들은 교육봉사활동 기관에서 멘토나 보조 교사의 역할을 주로 수행했던 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 수업 진행의 기회를 가질 수 있었던 예비교사들은 학생들에게 좋은 수업을 제공하기 위한 고민과 노력을 했던 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 자신의 전공 교과와 관련 없는 타 교과의 수업, 수업 방법이나 전략에 대한 예비교사들의 의견을 반영하는 것 없이 교육봉사활동 기관의 지시와 요구에만 따르는 수업 진행, 학생들의 불성실함 등으로 인해 수업을 실행하는 과정에서 어려움을 겪었던 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 예비교사들은 수업 실행과 관련된 어려움을 해결하기 위한 방법을 스스로 찾거나 해결하지 않은 채 그대로 두었던 것으로 나타났다. 이에 대한 교육적 시사점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
Recently, cultivating pre-service teachers' practical teaching skills in the educational service activity subject has been considered as one of the most important objectives of teaching practice. In this regard, the current study examined the operation condition for the subject, with a focus on the teaching practices through the perceptions of the pre-service teachers in order to improve the effectiveness of the educational service activity subject. For this purpose, a survey was conducted for 30 secondary science pre-service teachers. The results revealed that most of the participants had proper perceptions on the purpose of the educational service activity subject while some of them misunderstood the purpose of the subject as simply donating their own capabilities to society or building their qualifications for the job. It was also discovered that the pre-service teachers mainly performed the roles of the mentor and/or the teacher's assistant during the educational service activity. The pre-service teachers who had opportunities for teaching had tried to provide good lessons for the students. However, most of the pre-service teachers had difficulties teaching because 1) they taught the subjects unrelated to their major, 2) the teaching was tailored to the needs and directions of the institutions without reflecting the pre-service teachers’ views on teaching methods and strategies, and 3) the students were not serious in the preservice teachers’ class. It was verified that pre-service teachers found the solutions for the problems themselves and/or endured the problems without seeking solutions when they faced problems related to the teaching practices during the educational service activity. Educational implications of these findings were discussed.
