Abstract
This study analyzes the content related to social minorities in the “Human Rights Protection and the Constitution” unit of eight high school <Integrated Society> textbooks developed according to the 2022 revised curriculum. Focusing on the definition, attributes, characteristics, examples, perspectives, and problem-solving approaches related to social minorities, the analysis reveals that while the definitions and attributes of social minorities are partially reflected, key elements such as power imbalance and intersectionality are overlooked. Furthermore, cases related to sexual orientation and religion are scarcely addressed. Some textbooks present a paternalistic view, which may risk reproducing stereotypes, and the problem-solving approaches include both individual and social perspectives. However, these approaches have limitations in terms of otherizing social minorities. The social approach is mainly limited to anti-discrimination policies, and structural solutions are presented in a limited manner. These findings suggest the need for an educational design that goes beyond simple information delivery, promoting the subjective recognition of rights and seeking constitutional and legal solutions for the substantive protection of the rights of social minorities.
