Abstract

The purpose of this study was investigate the mediating effect of SOC(selection, optimization, compensation) strategy and the mediated moderating effect of cognitive flexibility between psychological stress and psychological well-being. 438 elderly people were participated in this study. Participants completed psychological stress, SOC, cognitive flexibility, psychological well-being scales. The collected data were analysed by using three-step mediation analysis and mediation, moderation and conditional process analysis. The obtained results were as follows: First, psychological stress significantly reduced the level of psychological well-being. Second, there was significant mediating effect of SOC between psychological stress and psychological well-being. Lastly, the moderating effect of cognitive flexibility on the relationship between psychological stress and SOC (the mediated moderating effect) was significant, but the moderating effect of cognitive flexibility on the relationship between SOC and psychological well-being(the moderated mediating effect) was not significant. These results suggested that there was buffering effect of SOC and cognitive flexibility between psychological stress and psychological well-being. The implications and limitations of this study and the direction of future researches were discussed.
