Abstract
This study focuses on the workplace choice and turnover behavior of the 2030s, a key demographic group in South Korea. As a generation with digital skills, open-mindedness, and adaptability to change, this study analyzes the impact of their labor market choices on the overall Korean labor market. This study used conjoint analysis on 267 job seekers to examine in-depth the main factors they consider when choosing a job. We found that factors such as organizational culture, support for training and certification, company location, and work style have a significant impact on the workplace choices of the 2030s. In particular, horizontal organizational culture and support for education, training, and certification have a significant positive impact on them. However, workplace location outside the metropolitan area and non-regular type of work have a negative impact on their workplace choice. The study also examined differences in workplace choice preferences by gender and residential area. The results showed that female respondents preferred to work in Incheon or Gyeonggi, while male respondents preferred to work in the metropolitan area or beyond. In addition, respondents living in non-metropolitan areas tended to place more importance on training and certification support. Companies should revamp their HR strategies and welfare systems to take into account the workplace selection criteria of the 2030s, and governments should strengthen education and training programs and balance job opportunities across regions. Together, these responses will increase the labor market participation of Generation 2030 and promote sustainable economic development.
