Abstract

This paper is the study on the non-mainstream life of Korean-Chinese society lead the Novel culture through storytelling. The story is fascinating. The word ‘story’ reminds of a novel first. A novel is a collection of interesting and fascinating stories. There must be a storyteller and story distribution space in ‘story’. This study started from the interest in the non-mainstream life of Korea and China, which focused on the power of attractive ‘story’ and ‘story spread’. The purpose of this study is to examine their life and activities, their influence on novels and popular culture. Those who focus on spreading stories are referred to as ‘story propagators’ for convenience. They are China’s Shuohuaren and Shuoshujia, Korea’s Jeongisu, Book-Broker and a woman who reads books. In addition, the book transportation ship in China and the book rental store in Korea, which are story distribution spaces, contributed to the spread of stories. Such various ‘story propagators’ and their method and process of spreading stories brought a new turning point to the Korean-Chinese novel culture. The story propagator of the Korean-Chinese society was mostly a non-mainstream life. They were historically and socially minor, but with passion they led to the popularization of story culture. The ‘story propagators’ of the Korean-Chinese society have lived a neglected life that has not been illuminated in history, so the related materials are quite fragmentary. In the fragmentary records shown in various literatures, most of the ‘story propagators’ are minor, such as disadvantaged intellectuals, lower management, underclass, and women. However, they created profits by providing ‘story’ products to the public based on artistic and cultural qualities and doing economic activities. In other words, they emanated unique qualities and charms through the story propagation process and built a new topographic map of popular culture centered on novels.
