Abstract

This paper is trying to analysis of three fundamental issues of environmental ethics, that is, issues of international, intergenerational, and interspecies. Therefore, what happens when conflicting international interests get involved in global environmental management? What are their obligations in the West to less developed nations, and how might they be met? What do we owe future generation? What are our responsibilities to the generations which will follow our own, and how should they be discharged? Can we do what we want with other species? Should we concern ourselves, for reasons other than self interest, which the impact of our way of life upon animals, plants, the wider biotic community, and ecosystem? The organization of this paper is clear. Three parts examine three key basic themes in greater detail: our relations with the developing world, our obligations to future generation, and our treatment of non human species. Each part divides into three parts which approach their common theme from three distinct perspectives: one part identifies the political factors that influence current practice, another argues from the position of moral philosophy, and the third examines the ecological and other scientific considerations that are crucial for any informed debate in these areas.
