Abstract

The phonological theory of the Prague School had such an important influence on generative phonology as well as structural phonemics that it seems appropriate to discuss it. This paper aims to sketch Prague School phonology during the classical period and to find their influential Factors on modern phonology. This paper consists of an introduction in which some historical aspects of the prewar Prague School are sketched briefly, and of five chapters devoted to the notion of phoneme, the types of opposition, neutralization, archiphoneme and morphonology.
