Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of aerobic exercise intensity and duration on appetite changes in adolescents. A cross-over design was employed, involving ten participants who engaged in four treadmill exercises(moderate-high intensity in short duration(Hi.Sho), moderate-high intensity in long duration(Hi.Lng), moderate-low intensity in short duration(Lo.Sho), and moderate-low intensity in long duration(Lo.Lng)). The exercise intensity was set at 70-80% of the maximum heart rate for moderate-high intensity, 30-40% of the maximum heart rate for moderate-low intensity, and the duration was set at 20 minutes for a short duration and 50 minutes for a long duration. Measurements of appetite, hunger, thirst index, blood sugar, body water, and body composition were conducted. The findings indicate that Hi.Sho exercise led to a temporary decrease in appetite and hunger immediately after exercise, whereas, over time, both appetite and hunger increased regardless of exercise intensity and duration. These results suggest that incorporating moderate-high intensity and short-term periods of exercise may be an effective strategy for appetite suppression and enhancing energy consumption, rather than relying solely on long-duration exercise for weight management in adolescents.
