This study aims to clarify how Massumi,‘s autonomy of affect works in dance and enables dance as an event that induces the ‘feeling-thinking’ of the autonomic body. Affect is similar to emotion, but it has an important difference in that it is centered on the body. Wheeldon, C.’ ballet,『Like water for chocolate』is based on novel but it focuses on intensity of movements rather than descriptive movement or facial expression. Affect is not only in non-representational dance such as im- provisation but also in the choreographed dance which is easily being confined to coded expression or the closure of meaning by similarity. Affect is an important element that allows dance to have aliveness by making it to be happened as event rather than performing the choreography.
