초록

This study is to investigate the aspect of functional transformation of the female addressing term, ‘-ne’ (-네) and ‘-daek’ (-댁), used in Jeonnam dialectal area and to clarify its cause. The main motive of focusing on them is that their function in the present is utterly different from the function in the past. For this, by setting the fifteenth century as the starting point, this paper examines the transformational phase of ‘-ne’ and ‘-daek’ and presumes its cause. To begin with, ‘-ne’ existed as ‘-nae’ (-내) form of the plural suffix for honorific in the fifteenth century, tried to alter functionally into the plural suffix for non-honorific in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, and then changed as the singular suffix for female addressing term which was able to be added to names of offsprings and thus did not need to use the term of respect. In the twenty-first century, however, ‘-ne’ became the suffix indicating ‘a certain group’ and its existing humble term has disappeared.
