본 연구는 Q방법을 이용하여 국내 언론인들의 뉴스생산 관행에 대한 태도 유형을 추출했다. 그 결과, 본 연구는3개의 언론인 태도 유형을 발견했다. 유형1 ‘원칙우선주의자 언론인’은 언론인 개인적 행동과 이데올로기라는윤리적 측면에서 언론인들의 관행에 비판적이고, 언론인의 정도를 지키며, 언론인으로서 기본 원칙에 충실하자는 유형이었다. 유형2 ‘조직중심주의자 언론인’은 조직의 효율성을 위해 일부 언론 관행들에 대해서 중립적이거나 호의적인 찬성 의견을 보이고 있으며, 조직 중심적 차원에서 외부의 영향력을 싫어하고 소속 언론사가 뉴스의 중심에 위치해야 한다는 의식을 가지고 있었다. 유형3 ‘수용자중심주의자 언론인’은 기본적으로 수용자에게 보다 나은 서비스를 제공하기 위해 취재보도에 충실해야 한다는 입장에서 언론의 관행들에 대해 비판적이었으며, 정치적 기사보다는 수용자들 주변의 기사를 선호하고 전반적으로 뉴스생산 관행에 대해 비판적이고 개혁적인 태도를 보였다. 결론적으로, 일부 유형별 차이가 있기는 하지만, 국내 언론인들은 대체로 언론의 관행에 비판적이고 개선해야 한다는 점에 동의하고 있었다. 다만, 일부 언론인들은 관행의 개선에 저항적인 성향을 가지고 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the journalists’attitudes toward the news production routines. As a result of the study, three factors have been found. The attitudinal types are principle-first journalists, organization-centered journalists, and audience-centered journalists. The principle-first journalists put emphasis on the journalistic and moral principles of the news production routines when they cover news stories. The organization-centered journalists give priority to the logic and value of their news organization when they undergo the news production routines. The audience-centered journalists give priority to the quality of news in favour of the audience when they deal with the news production routines. And all three types of journalists think that news is negatively influenced by these news production routines. The news making routines of the journalists in South Korea are not actively studied and discussed so far. Only some researchers, who have experiences as journalists, tended to pay attention to the importance of the routines. Therefore, we need more discussions and analysis on news making routines to improve journalistic practices in South Korea.
