코로나19와 가치 변화: ‘안전’을 중심으로

초록

본 논문에서는 안전을 중심으로 코로나19 이후의 가치 변화를 탐색하기 위해 전국대표 표본 1,506명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 분석에앞서, 2000년대 이후 사회과학 분야에서 수행된 안전 관련 경험적 연구를 검토하였고 한계와 문제점을 정리하였다. 이어서, 안전을 포함한 가치 연구를 체계적으로 수행할 수 있는 하나의 방법으로, 슈워츠의 가치 연구가 갖는 특징을 제시하고, 이에따라 코로나19 이후 한국 사회가 경험했을 것으로 예상되는 가치 변화를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 팬데믹을 거치면서 안전 가치의 상대적 중요도가 매우 높아졌으며, 특정가치 항목들과의 인접성도 더 이상 관찰되지 않았다. 또한 이러한 변화가 응답자의사회인구학적 특징이나 감염병 확진 여부, 증상의 경중에 따라 크게 달라지지 않았다는 점에서, 코로나19 시대를 경험한 사람들에게 보편적으로 나타난 가치 변화일수 있다는 결론을 제시하였다. 마지막으로, 이러한 가치 변화가 갖는 함의를 정리하고 관련 후속 연구의 필요성을 강조하였다.

Abstract

To investigate how values, with a focus on safety, have evolved in the aftermath of COVID-19, this study conducted a survey with 1,506 nationally representative samples. Initially, the study reviewed empirical studies on safety within the field of social sciences since the 2000s, identifying their challenges and limitations. Subsequently, it utilized Schwartz's value theory as a framework to systematically analyze value shifts in Korean society post-COVID-19. The analysis showed that the pandemic has significantly elevated the relative importance of safety and the proximity between safety and certain other value items was no longer observed. Furthermore, these changes were not significantly different across respondents' sociodemographic characteristics, COVID-19 infection status, or symptom severity, suggesting that this could be a universal value change experienced by people during the COVID-19 era. Lastly, the paper outlined the implications of these value changes and emphasized the need for related follow-up research.
