Abstract
The United States and the Soviet Union decided to divide and occupy the Korean Peninsula along the 38th parallel on September 2, 1945. However, the day is a representative national holiday commemorating the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. What on earth happened in the Indochina Peninsula between August 15, 1945, when Japan was defeated, and September 2, a period of less than twenty days? This study examines the background, process, and significance of the August Revolution in chronological order through events that occurred in French Indochina from August 1945 until September 2, when the Democratic Republic of Vietnam declared independence. Chapter 2 “The Prelude to the Revolution and the 9th National Congress”, examines Tan Trao’s 9th National Congress as well as the international and domestic environmental and social conditions before the August Revolution for the purpose of understanding the background of the revolution that began in the north. Chapter 3 “General Uprising and the Declaration of Independence” examines the unfolding of the August Revolution, which centered around Tan Chao, Hanoi, and the surrounding areas. Compared to the revolution of the north, the case in the central and Revolution was merely a prelude to a long ordeal and a renewed struggle against foreign powers. However, the experience of “squares” and “victories” would endure.
