전후 베트남 역사(1945-1954)의 이슈와 문제점 소 병 국 (한국외국어대학교) 2차 세계대전 직후부터 1954년에 프랑스와 비엣 민(Viet Minh: 월맹)이 제네바 협정에 의해 휴전을 맺을 때 까지 베트남 현대사에 대한 사가들의 연구는 주로 프랑스에 대한 베트남공산당, 특히 호찌민의 투쟁과 승리에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 전후 베트남공산당이 어떻게 미국이 지원한 프랑스를 격퇴할 수 있었는가가 베트남 현대사에서 중요한 비중을 차지하고 있다는 점에선 이견이 없다. 그러나 대부분의 사가들이 그 주제에 대한 연구에 지나치게 몰입하는 동안 다른 주요 이슈들이 간과되어 당시의 역사적 상황에 대한 명확한 이해를 어렵게 하고 있다. 이러한 역사서술의 문제점을 극복하기위해 다음 두 가지 사항을 고려해야할 필요가 있다: 첫째, 전후 10년 동안 국내정치와 관련해 베트남공산당과 협력 및 세력경쟁을 벌인 베트남의 다른 정치적, 종교적 집단들의 활동에 대한 연구; 둘째, 당시의 국제정치와 관련해 베트남의 국내정치와, 프랑스와 미국의 외교관계와의 연관성에 대한 고찰. 첫 번째 논점에 대한 고찰은 1954년 이후 미국이 베트남전에 개입하면서 남과 북에서 복잡하게 전개된 정치, 사회적 상황을 보다 명확히 이해하는데 중요한 바탕을 제공한다. 두 번째 논점에 대한 연구는 국제정치적인 면에서 베트남의 외교적 역할이 프랑스와 미국의 외교관계에 함몰되어 베트남 전쟁의 주역이면서도 외교적으로 도외시되는 점을 극복해 베트남 전쟁의 외교사적 진실을 보다 분명히 이해하는데 커다란 도움을 준다.
