17대 대선 캠페인에 대한 두 언론의 여론조사 보도 －한겨레신문과 조선일보를 중심으로

본 연구는 지난 17대 대선 캠페인과 관련된 여론조사보도가 흥미보도인지, 정책보도 인지에 대해 조선일보와 한겨레신문을 대상으로 고찰했다. 결과에 따르면, 한겨레신문의 정책보도 기사는 18.4%였으며 대체로 이명박 후보에게 부정적인 내용이 많았지만 긍정적인 기사도 다소 게재된 것으로 나타났다. 조선일보의 정책보도 기사는 17.5%였으며 이명박 후보에게 긍정적인 기사가 절대적으로 많았다. 한겨레신문의 흥미보도 기사의 비중은 69.4%로 높게 나타났다. 기사들은 대부분 이명박 후보에게 유리한 내용이었으며, 여타 후보들에게 유리한 기사가 일부 있었다. 조선일보는 전체 기사 중 68.4%가 흥미위주 보도였다. 특히 조선일보의 흥미보도 기사는 이명박 후보에게 유리한 기사를 절대적으로 많이 보도했다. 결론적으로 언론은 흥미와 정책 관련 여론조사 보도에서 앞서가는 특정 후보에게 유리하게 보도하는 행태를 보였다. 특히 흥미위주 기사는 대부분 앞선 후보에게 유리한 보도 행태를 보였다. 이는 진보적인 것으로 알려진 한겨레신문과 보수적인 조선일보가 크게 다르지 않았다.
Abstract
This study explored newspapers’ reporting patterns of public opinion polls during the 17th presidential election campaign period in the country. According to the analysis, Hankyoreh’s policy reporting was 18.4%. The news articles were relatively negative toward Lee Myung-park while some of them were positive. Chosun’s policy reporting was 17.5%. Most of them were positive toward Lee Myung-park. Hankyoreh’s human interest reporting was 69.4%. Most of the articles were positive toward Lee while some of them were positive toward others. Chosun’s human interest reporting was 68.4%. Most of the articles were absolutely positive toward Lee. In conclusion, public opinion news articles in terms of policy reporting as well as human interest reporting tended to lean to the winning candidate. Specially, human interest articles tended to lean to the winning candidate absolutely even further. So called, the progressive Hankyoreh as well as the conservative Chosun showed the similar patterns.
