Abstract
This research aims to discern the distinct impact of variations in weekly test scores, final exam scores, persistence intention, and metacognitive judgment in a MOOC learning environment, contingent on the utilization of Pre-Retrieval Practice and the types of feedback employed. Experiment participants were categorized into a control group, engaging in restudying with or without pre-retrieval practice, and an experimental group actively participating in pre-retrieval practice. The experimental group was further divided into three subgroups based on the nature of feedback provided(Experimental Group 1: knowledge of results, Experimental Group 2: knowledge of correct response, Experimental Group 3: elaborated feedback). Learners underwent a five-week K-MOOC course under specified learning conditions. Persistence intention and metacognitive judgment were assessed through a survey post the last learning week, while the final exam was conducted one week thereafter. Key findings include the significantly higher scores of Experimental Group 2 in weekly pre-retrieval practice compared to Experimental Groups 1 and 3. Variations were also observed among groups in items retrieved and the mean of final exam scores. Persistence intentions and metacognitive judgments were found to exhibit significant differences across groups. These results offer implications for further research in the field.
