Abstract

The development of feminism accompanied the interest in the body. Feminists in 1960's began to zxnotice the problems of kinds of discrimination, sexual violence, buying and selling sex, pornography, sex-commodities, etc. derived from gender. They argued what determines feminity is just the characteristic of female body or the role associated with the body and that this have constituted the ruling system oppressive to women. Then they started to rethink the question of reproduction, feminity, and maternity etc. oriented from female body which has been depreciated and different from male's. The attention to the body in literary texts diverges into two directions. One is the case of woman's declaration that she is the subject of desire, and the other case, female body's expansion to the center or entity of the world through other-centered 'morality of caring'. In spite of such an optimism of writers, the solidification of this capitalist society cause women to compete for beauty continually. 'Economy of gift', characteristic of feminity can also become an ideology to concrete women's present place if it pass through the labyrinth of real world. We are to be alerted where 'body' discourses can be distorted themselves, although they can create the points of revolution to produce new meanings.
