‘교직의 여성화’가 아동의 성역할 사회화에 미치는 영향 분석

이 연구는 교직 내 여교사의 증가와 아동의 성역할사회화와의 관계를 경험적으로 규명하고자 하는 데 목적이 있다. 예비조사를 통하여 성역할사회화 경향 척도를 개발하고, 전국 40개 초등학교 6학년 남녀 학생 총 2,447명을 대상으로 한 질문지가 분석되었다. 조사결과, 첫째, 가정의 부모나 어른들이 학교의 교사에 비해 아동들에게 더 빈번하게 남성적 또는 여성적 경향의 행동을 요구하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 아동의 성별이 아동의 성역할사회화 경향에 일정한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 가정에서나 학교에서나 여자 아동에게는 여자답도록 요구하는 경향이, 남자 아동에게는 남자답도록 요구하는 경향이 발견되었다. 세 번째, 지역별 차이를 본 결과, 읍면 지역에서 여자 아동들에게 여자답도록 요구하는 경향이 가장 뚜렷한 것으로 나타나 지역간 문화차이와 여아에 대한 강한 성정형화된 기대가 있음을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로, 초등학교에서 여교사를 담임으로 만나는 횟수가 아동의 사회화를 특정한 방향으로 몰고 가지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과, 여교사가 초등학생들의 성역할 사회화를 여성적 경향으로 이끌 것이라는 일반적인 믿음이 근거 있는 것이 아님을 시사하였다.
Abstract
This study was to examine empirically the relationship between the increase of female teachers and sex-role socialization of students. A questionnaire of sex-role development was developed in the former part of this study. Then, the data was collected from 2,447 6th-grade students in 40 elementary schools. The meaningful findings were: First, adults and parents at home were more influential for the socialization of sex-role of girls and boys than teachers were. Second, students' sex itself was the strongest factor for the formation of sex-role tendency. People expected femininity for girl students and masculinity for boy students. Third, the region effect was significant, that was, expect of femininity for girl students was eminent in small towns than in middle or large cities. Lastly, the number of female home-room teachers at elementary schools was not related with the sex-role socialization of students. It was concluded that the wide-spread belief on the relationship between the increase of female teachers and sex-role socialization of elementary students was not supported by this study.
