초등학교 6학년 학생이 희망하는 직업을 조사한 결과 남학생은 남성 지배적 직업을, 여학생은 여성 지배적 직업을 선호하는 경향이 뚜렷하게 나타나 성별에 따른 진로편중 현상이 초등학교 단계에서부터 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 성역할 의식과 선호하는 과목이 초등학생의 직업선호에 관여하는 요인으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 대부분의 초등학생은 성별에 따른 직업구분을 받아들이지 않지만, 고용기회와 승진 기회에서 성차별이 존재한다는 것을 인식하고 있었다. 특히 여학생의 경우, 성역할의식과 선호교교과목, 직업세계에 대한 인식이 직업선호의 차이를 가져오는 데 의미있는 변수로 작용하는 것으로 나타나 이들에 대한 진로교육 방향에 시사점을 찾을 수 있다.
Abstract
This study is to analyze the difference of the job preference of primary students by sex and to find the factors that cause the difference. As a result of surveying 1,200 6thｰgrade students, a strong tendency of sexｰsegregation was found in their job preference. That is, boys tended to prefer the traditional maleｰdominated jobs while girls preferred the femaleｰdominated jobs, although there were very few students agreeing that there are proper jobs in terms of sex. This result led to the question, how the sexｰsegregation of their job preference could be explained. Genderｰrole consciousness and school subjects were found to be influential factors differentiating their preference of jobs. Students with more conservative genderｰrole consciousness tended to choose the traditional jobs. Also, girls who liked to study science and mathematics strongly preferred the maleｰdominated jobs. Most primary students conceived the existence of sexｰdiscrimination in the labor market, and partial relationship was found between such concept and the choice of their future job only in the group of girl students.
