청소년들의 성역할 태도에 미치는 통제요인들의 변이에 관한 연구 : 성 차이를 중심으로

본 연구는 1,039명의 청소년들에 대한 설문을 바탕으로 청소년들의 성역할 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하고 각 요인들이 성별에 따라 어떻게 변이하는지 분석을 시도하기 위한 것이다. 분석집단을 전체집단과 남자청소년, 그리고 여자청소년으로 나누어 비교 분석하였다. 전체집단에서 여자청소년들은 남자청소년들보다 성평등 의식이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 성별의 차이는 성역할 태도에 영향을 미치는 가장 중요한 요인으로 작용하였다. 남녀 청소년들을 비교한 결과, 첫째, 가부장가족구조에서 성장한 남녀 청소년들일수록 모두 보수적인 성역할 태도를 지니고 있었다. 둘째, 어머니의 직업이 있는 남자청소년들의 경우 성평등 의식이 높은 반면, 여자청소년들에게는 그 영향이 없었다. 셋째, 여자청소년들의 경우 아버지와의 애착이 높을수록 보수적인 성역할 태도를 지니고 있었다. 넷째, 종교성은 여자청소년들의 성역할 태도에만 영향을 미쳐서 종교성이 높을수록 보수적 성역할 태도를 보여주었다. 다섯째, 성취동기와 학업성취수준이 높은 여자청소년일수록 평등한 성역할 태도를 지닌 반면, 남자청소년들에게는 통계적인 유의미성이 나타나지 않았다. 여섯째, 자아존중감과 폭력성향이 높은 남자청소년들은 가부장적 성역할 태도를 지니는 경향이 높았지만, 여자청소년들에게서는 통계적 유의미성이 없었다. 이러한 결과는 청소년들의 성역할 태도에 미치는 여러 변인들의 영향력이 성별에 따라 변이한다는 것을 뒷받침하는 것이다.

Abstract

Using questionnaire data from a sample of 1,139 adolescents, this study examines the various effects on adolescents’ gender‐role attitudes. Beyond a simple bivariate relationship, this study analyzes whether the effects of a patriarchal family, mother's employment, parental attachments, religiosity, motives for achievement, GPA, self‐respect, and violence vary according to adolescent gender. The results indicated that female adolescents are more likely to have egalitarian gender‐role attitudes than male adolescents. The strongest effect on gender‐role attitudes is the adolescent's gender difference in the total group. Adolescents who are raised in patriarchal families are more likely to have egalitarian gender‐role attitudes. Male adolescents whose mothers have jobs outside the home are less likely to have traditional gender‐role attitudes, but the effect of the mother's employmentis not found in female adolescents. Only female adolescents who have strong relationships with their fathers tend to have traditional gender‐role attitudes. Higher religiosity increases traditional gender‐role attitudes for only female adolescents. Female adolescents who have higher motives for achievement and higher GPAs have much more egalitarian attitudes regarding gender‐role, but there are no significant effects for male adolescents. Male adolescents who have higher levels of self‐respect and violent characteristics tend to have lower egalitarian gender‐attitudes. The implication is that gender difference forms a differential structure of constraints that shapes adolescent gender‐role attitudes.
