사회적 상황에서의 외상경험에 따른 청소년의 사회불안: 또래관계의 중재 효과

초록

본 연구는 사회적 상황에서의 외상경험이 청소년의 사회불안에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 외상경험에 따른 사회불안에 대한 또래관계의 중재 효과를 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 연구를 위해 서울시에 위치한 초등학교 5, 6학년과 중학교 1, 2학년에 재학 중인 남, 여 초기 청소년 573명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 사회적 상황에서의 외상경험은 청소년의 사회불안의 두 측면인 대인불안과 수행불안에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 외상경험의 하위요인 중 대인 상황에서의 외상경험이 대인불안과 수행불안 모두에 대하여 수행 상황에서의 외상경험보다 더 큰 설명력을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 또래관계의 중재 효과를 알아보기 위하여, 사회적 상황에서의 외상경험을 독립변인으로, 청소년의 사회불안을 종속변인으로, 또래관계의 두 특성인 또래선호도와 친구관계 질을 중재변인으로 설정한 후 분석하였다. 그 결과, 또래 선호도의 중재 효과는 대인불안에서, 친구관계 질의 중재 효과는 수행불안에서 나타나, 또래관계의 두 측면인 또래 선호도와 친구관계의 질은 외상경험과 사회불안의 관계를 중재하는 기능이 서로 다르게 나타났다. 이 같은 연구 결과는 사회적 상황에서의 외상경험에 의해 유발되거나 유지되는 청소년의 사회불안의 영향을 중재하는 또래관계의 중요성을 살펴보고 그 역할을 구체화할 수 있었으며, 이를 토대로 청소년의 사회불안에 대한 교육, 상담 및 심리치료적 개입의 시사점을 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating effects of peer relationships on the relationship between traumatic experiences in social situations and social anxiety. The subjects of this study were 573 fifth and sixth graders in elementary schools and first and second graders in junior high schools in Seoul. The results of this study are as follow: First, research findings revealed traumatic experiences in social situations were significantly related to adolescent social anxiety which include interpersonal anxiety and performance anxiety. Moreover, the effects of traumatic experiences of interpersonal situations had a more significant effects on social anxiety than did that of traumatic experiences of performance situation. Secondly, the analysis of the moderating effects of peer relationships between traumatic experiences in social situations and adolescent social anxiety showed that social preference had a moderating effect on interpersonal anxiety, thereas the quality of friendship had a moderating effect on performance anxiety. This suggests that social preference and the quality of friendship, which are two aspects of adolescent peer relationships, have different functions in moderating the relationship between traumatic experiences and social anxiety.
