Abstract

Zhang Cheng Zhi, during his entire life, has sought idealism through his works. But his mother Cho-won's perfect world and aesthetic narration on the hero who has grown up out of his mother's breast, however, came to end by the [Gold Meadow]. His frustrated idealism at the reality of mother country is revived by means of folk belief that comes from Hue tribes in south-northern part of China. ‘Zhe he ren ye’ that talks about chastity of his faith have him go through poverty & martyrdom, and it finally make him one of the most popular author in China. Because ‘Zhe he ren ye’ was a foundation on which he criticize the contemporary state of China that was collapsing down to merchandise economy. Zhang Cheng Zhi could respond to martyrdom of ‘Zhe he ren ye’, because in which he saw that physical damage and bloody aestheticism were resonated together. Since this work was completed in the midst of Cultural Revolution, a shade of the Great Upheaval can be found many times in his epic literature. The author has kept this epic view to maintain an idealistic state, and this notion extended to hostile attitude against the contemporary history of China. From this kind of perspective, just as he did, we can draw out a good-and-evil dualism that is typical feature of Cultural Revolution. The author's positive view of history was in a sense also a positive reflection of himself. Likewise if someone loses self reflection of his life, no one can dare to write a epic literature throwing an image on himself. Because absolute attitude of status without reflection might fall into self-rationalization.
