Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing stress of cagivers with spouses having a Mental Illness. A survey was conducted on the spouses of mentally disabled diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder, registered under nation-wide mental health centers and social rehabilitation facilities. 109 responses from the survey were used for the analysis. The research findings can be summarized as the followings. Medication management, the numbers of children, the age of last child, couple interaction were significant predictors to explain the stress of caregivers with Spouses having a mental illness. The most powerful predictor of stress was couple interaction in the stress of caregivers with Spouses having a mental illness. This study suggests that medication management, the numbers of children, the age of last child and couple interaction are significant influencing factors in the stress of caregivers with spouses having a mental illness.
