Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of social function of schizophrenic patients on subjective burden of their mothers. The subjects of this study were 154 mothers of schizophrenic outpatients and the results of this study are as follows: The first, the results showed that the subjective burden of their mothers were related significantly to the job status of mothers, family financial status perceived by mothers, and job status of patients among demographic social characteristics. They tend to feel more subjective burden as younger they are, more absence of their spouses, less education level, and lower level of income but there was no statistical significance among them. Also, the study showed more subjective burden when the patients were female, in their age of 30's, and single but these also didn't show statistical significance. The second, the results showed significant impact of free time activities, problem behaviors and communications among social functions on the subjective burden of their mothers. The magnitude of impact were, in sequence, problem behaviors, free time activities and communication. These results of research were analyzed, comparing with previous studies. It was recommended to work on financial problems, problem behaviors, free time activities, and communications in order to reduce subjective burden of mothers of schizophrenic patients.
