초록

This paper investigates an Indonesian passive construction from typological view and suggests a teaching method based on its typological characteristics. For ease of understanding, domestic academy has focused only on structural differences between two types of Indonesian passive construction from an Indo-European perspective. This perspective, however, not only caused a lot of exceptional phenomena in the Indonesian passive construction but also failed to catch its relationship with other grammatical phenomena. To solve the problems, this paper insists on the necessity of balanced typological view for studying and teaching the Indonesian passive construction. From this discussion, it will be cleared that the passive construction in Indonesian can be understood and taught correctly for the first time when it is examined based on its typological characteristics.
