태권도 철학 발전 과정에서 황기의 무도철학의 영향 관계 연구: 유교적인 특징을 중심으로

무덕관은 현대 태권도의 모체가 된 5대 기간도장 중의 하나였다. 이후 태권도협회 통합과정에서 일부 인물들이 수박도회로 분리되었으나, 실제로 무덕관의 기술과 철학은 다른 기간도장들 이상으로 태권도에 영향을 주고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 태권도의 발전 과정에서 한 부분을 차지한 무덕관의 초대 관장 황기의 무도철학을 분석해 보았다. 이런 논의 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 황기의 태권도 개념은 정신적인 가치를 부여하는 무도철학이 태권도에 필수적이라고 보고 있었다. 둘째, 황기는 태권도 혹은 무도라는 신체활동을 단순히 수단으로만 간주하지 않고 목적성을 가진 수단으로서 강조하였다. 셋째, 황기의 무도철학은 유교적인 수기치인을 출발점으로 해서 세상에 봉사하는 것을 목적으로 하는 점에서 유교 혹은 성리학적인 가치구조를 가지고 있다. 넷째, 활(活)을 최종 목적으로 강조하는 황기의 무도철학은 현대 태권도철학의 내용과 큰 맥락에서 일치한다.
Abstract
This study researched and analyzed Hwang Ki's martial arts philosophy and how it influenced the philosophy of Taekwondo historically. Hwang Ki is the first master of Moo Duk Kwan, which was one of the important Kwans before the establishment of the Korea Taekwondo Association. In this study, the following conclusions were obtained. (1) Hwang Ki thought the concept of Taekwondo includes its philosophy which gives spiritual values. (2) He believed the physical activity of Taekwondo is not only a means but also a kind of goal that we should pursue. (3) His philosophy had the value system of Confucianism in that one ought to train himself first and then devote himself to the prosperity of the world. (4) His philosophy is similar to the modern philosophy of Taekwondo in that their final goal is helping others.
