본 논문은 종교개혁자 존 칼빈(1509-1564)의 신학에 비추어 기독교 삼위일체론의 예전학적 가능성과 시사점을 탐구한다. 예배를 삼위일체적으로 재구성하려는 현대적 노력의 일환으로, 본 논문은 먼저 칼빈의 삼위일체론에서 부각되는 신학적 특징들을 살핀 후, 이것이 어떻게 우리의 예배관에 영향을 미칠 수 있을 지를 고찰한다. 칼빈의 삼위일체론은 그리스도와 하나님 말씀의 동질성을 부각시킴으로 하나님 말씀의 인격적 측면을 강조하는 교리이며, 이러한 인격적 말씀, 즉 그리스도를 통한 하나님과의 인격적 전인적 관계맺음을 신앙의 본질로 제시하는 교리이다. 비록 그리스도는 현재 지상에 부재하지만 성령의 능력이 신자를 그리스도에의 전인적 참여와 그와의 인격적 교제로 이끈다는 것이 칼빈의 삼위일체론이 시사하는 바이다. 이것을 밝힌 후, 본 논문은 칼빈에게 있어서 지상의 예배란 무엇보다 이러한 삼위일체적 신인관계와 교제가 구현되는 장임을 보인다. 특히 예배를 구성하는 인간적 요소들, 즉 설교자의 존재와 성례 시 이뤄지는 공동체의 행위 등은 신자들로 하여금 부재한 그리스도의 인성을 모종의 방식으로 체험하게 함으로 교제의 인격성을 구현하는 일과 밀접하다는 것을 보인다. 이러한 이해에 근거하여 본 논문은 삼위일체적 예배, 혹은 삼위일체 하나님에 대한 예배란 하나님과 교회의 전인격적 관계성이 부각되는 예배이며, 이를 위해 강한 존재적, 경험적, 그리고 상호적 차원을 갖는 예배임을 주장한다. 또한 이런 모습이 성례를 중심으로 한 예전적 틀 속에서 온전히 구현될 수 있음을 시사한다. 결론적으로 본 논문은 칼빈의 신학을 통해서 볼 때 삼위일체론이 예전적인 함의로 충만한 교리임을 밝힌다.
Abstract
This article probes liturgical implications of the Christian doctrine of the trinity in light of theology of John Calvin (1509-1564). Based on the understanding that worship is a trinitarian event, this article first captures characteristic points of Calvin's trinitarian discourse, and then explores how these can affect our concept and practice of worship of God. Calvin's trinitarian discourse characteristically emphasizes personal nature of God's word, by highlighting the person of Christ as the ground of all words of God, and suggests having personal relationship and communion with God through this personal word, Christ, as the goal of our faith. It teaches that while Christ is only in heaven, the power of the Holy Spirit enables our communion with the whole person of Him, both divine and human. After showing this, this article reveals that, for Calvin, worship of the church is above all a place for this communion. It particularly infers that human elements of worship, e.g. the person of minister and our communal sacramental actions, are a means for embodying the personal nature of our communion, by making believers experience the humanity, or whole personality, of Christ. From all this, this article suggests that trinitarian worship is fundamentally a personal communion with God, which is most ideally fulfilled in an participatory, experiential, and interactive settings. It also implies that sacramental liturgy can be an ideal frame for this worship. The conclusion is that the Christian doctrine of the trinity is full of implications for liturgy and its practice.
