Abstract

This paper studies vocabulary errors made by Vietnamese learners of Korean. It focuses on interlingual errors and presents a vocabulary pedagogy based on the results of an extensive error analysis. To strengthen the positive transfer from the Vietnamese learners' mother tongue, a list of True Friends (Sino-Korean words and Sino-Vietnamese words that have the same meaning) is presented. To assist both teachers and learners in avoiding interference errors, a list of False Friends (Sino-Vietnamese words which have different meanings or no meaning in Korean) is also presented.
