돌은 현대인에게서 ‘무생물’의 카테고리로 여겨지기에, 그 존재 의미를 발견하기란 쉽지 않다. 더욱이 오늘날 과학기술문명과 실증주의가 지배하는 시대에 사람들은 돌을 살아 있는 존재자로 여기지 않는다. 그러나 돌은 먼 선사시대부터 우리에게 친근한 문화의 동반자로 여겨져왔다. 동양문화에 심취한 롬바흐(H. Rombach)는 ‘돌의 세계’를 발견하고 ‘말하는 돌’의 의미를 명쾌하게 밝혀내고 있다. 그뿐만 아니라 그는 돌로부터 ‘절대자’와 ‘초‒자연’으로서의 시원적 형이상학 개념을 읽어낸다. 그런데 ‘말하는 돌’은 고인돌의 덮개돌에 새겨진 성좌가 더더욱 명쾌하게 드러내고 있다. 고인돌의 천문도는 단순히 하늘의 별을 나타내는 데만 그치지 않고, 일월남북두(日月南北斗)와 같은 사숙도(四宿圖)를 통해 의미심장한 메시지를 우리에게 던지고 있는 것이다. 선사인(先史人)들은 자신들이 고도의 정신문화와 철학을 펼쳤음을 ‘말하는 돌’을 통해 우리에게 말하고 있다.
Abstract
Since stones are regarded as a category of inanimate nature by modern people, it is not easy to find meanings of there existences. Especially due to the modern prevailing scientific and technological civilization and positivism stones are regarded as non‒living beings. However, they have been regarded as familiar cultural partners for us from the prehistoric age. H. Rombach, a devoted admirer of Eastern culture has discovered the world of stones and has clarified the meaning of ancient sculpted megalith. Furthermore, from stones[or megalith] he has derived the primal metaphysical concepts as “Absolute” and “Supernatural”. Especially, constellations which were engraved on the capstones of dolmen among “ancient sculpted megaliths” express more clearly abovementioned concepts. “The maps of constellations”(天文圖, 천문도) engraved on dolmens represent not only the stars of the heaven, but give us absolutely meaningful messages through their “four‒constellations‒systems”(the Son, the Moon, the Big Dipper and the Sagittarius). “Ancient sculpted megaliths” have shown us that prehistoric men owned a high standard of spiritual culture and philosophy.
