본 연구는 이상화의 시 「지반정경」을 중심으로, 식민지 현실 속에서 전개되는 ‘죽음’과 ‘생명’의 시적 상상력을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 이상화의 시에서 형상화되고 있는 죽음은 단순한 절망이나 소멸의 이미지에 머무르지 않고, 오히려 생명을 성찰하게 하는 계기로 작용한다는 점에서 중요한 시적 모티프로 기능한다. 나아가 「지반정경」은 공동체의 생존이 위협받는 역사적 조건 아래에서 죽음의 이미지가 반복적으로 소환되는 동시에, 그 너머의 생명 가능성 또한 함께 상상되는 복합적 시공간을 보여준다. 이 글에서는 ｢지반정경｣을 통해 이상화가 당대 현실 인식을 어떻게 존재론적 차원으로 확장하는지, 그리고 죽음과 생명의 긴장 속에서 어떠한 새로운 시적 주체를 형상화하는지에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 더불어 「지반정경」이 지닌 미학적 성취와 생명 윤리적 함의를 조명함으로써, 이상화 시 세계에 대한 보다 다층적인 이해를 도모하였다. 특히 이 글에서 주된 연구 대상으로 삼고 있는 「지반정경」은 지금까지 이상화의 대표작에 비해 상대적으로 주목받지 못했으며, 단독으로는 본격적인 분석의 대상이 된 사례가 드물다는 점에서 문학사적 의의 또한 지닌다.
Abstract
This study examines Lee Sang-hwa's poem "Jibanjeonggyeong" with a focus on the poetic imagination of death and life as articulated within the realities of colonial rule. In Lee's poetry, death functions not merely as an image of despair or annihilation, but as a central poetic motif that prompts reflection on the meaning and conditions of life itself. Furthermore, "Jibanjeonggyeong" constructs a complex spatiotemporal framework in which images of death are repeatedly invoked against historical conditions that threaten the survival of the community, while simultaneously gesturing toward the possibility of life that persists beyond those conditions. This study explores how Lee Sang-hwa extends his acute awareness of reality into an ontological inquiry and how, through "Jibanjeonggyeong," he forges a new poetic subject situated within the tension between death and life. By analyzing the poem's aesthetic achievements alongside its ethical implications-especially those related to bioethical concerns-this study seeks to present a more layered understanding of Lee Sang-hwa's poetic world. Moreover, "Jibanjeonggyeong" has received relatively little scholarly attention compared to Lee's more frequently cited representative works and has rarely been the subject of sustained, independent analysis, thereby holding a distinctive literary-historical significance.
