초록
As an important medium of mass communication, news discourse can convey specific attitudes, intentions, and emotions regarding hot issues. One such issue is Japan’s plan to discharge the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean, which has triggered unprecedented concern about the safety of the global ecosystem from all walks of life. Adopting the ecological discourse analysis paradigm and following Stibbe’s (2015) “Living!” ecosophy, this study conducted a thorough analysis of the Attitude resources in China Daily news discourse on the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water discharge. The aim was to uncover and elaborate on the ecological thoughts and orientations reflected in the Attitude resources. The results showed that Affect resource was the most frequent, followed by Judgement resource, and then Appreciation resource. In terms of the overall ecological orientation, a majority was characterized by a destructive orientation. The sub-systems of different Attitude resources also varied in distribution and predisposition. The embedded ecosophy included “Value Living”, “Care” and “Now and Future”. The results of this study can help news readers to probe into the implicit ideology and ecological thoughts embedded in news discourses, become critical in news reading and establish the correct ecological awareness.
