Anthropomorphic metaphor in editorials of three major Japanese newspapers-Using the editorial on climate change as an example

Based on the theory of Critical Metaphor Analysis, this paper selects the editorials discussing climate change in three major Japanese newspapers to analyze the Anthropomorphic metaphors used in the discourse. The editorials on climate change use Anthropomorphic metaphors to construct the national image of Japan from the two aspects of "Self-identity Construction" and "Other-identity Construction" respectively. As a result, the following findings were revealed. (1)In Self-identity Construction, Japan is compared to a teenager and a leader, expressing its determination to face the challenges of climate change, to give full play to its strengths and to gain an advantage in the international competition.(2) In Self-identity Construction, positive metaphors are used to closely link Japan with European and American countries, strengthening Japan's identity as a developed country. It also criticized the conservative attitude of developing countries towards climate change, highlighting Japan's contribution in promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.
