Abstract
Sodium ion batteries (SIBs) are being touted as the next generation of secondary batteries due totheir low raw material cost due to their high content of abundant resources on Earth, and their ability to usealuminum as a current collector instead of copper, which reduces manufacturing costs. However, the chargingand discharging of sodium ions is thermodynamically unstable on commercially available graphene, and severalstudies are underway to address this issue. In this review, we review the latest research to improve the cyclestability, initial Coulombic efficiency, and capacity of sodium-ion batteries. We will then discuss thesignificance of each study and the challenges that need to be addressed in the future.
