Abstract

This paper provides with the statistical data, analytic data, and retrospection of the censors through classifying process of the censors in colonial Chosun under Japanese Empire, and ascertain various statuses and aspects under the inflected and discriminated censorship between Empire’s main land and colony, according to the positions of censor or censorship apparatus and censor’s grade under censorship system when law of censorship was applied to the society. The features of the censorship documents as described hereabove are as follows The descriptions include: -It is extremely natural that censorship criterion shall be applied and construed differently under the rules of Empire between Empire’s main land and colony. -Colonial elites who were the “inspectors” and at the same time, the “inspected” have actively followed and constructively sympathized Empire's censorship. -A sense of superiority as an Japanese Empire’s people as compared with the colonial people through the Empire’s censorship system -Ruler’s various lines of eyes to the colony under the censorship system and etc. At the end of this paper, diagram chart with details for censorship documents are provided and the summary of censor’s careers, histories and writings included in the documents are presented in order to understand the censorship system and mechanism. The writer believes that this censorship documents shall be the base and essential foundation for earnest censorship research program.
