외모에 대한 사회문화적 영향과 여자 청소년의 이상섭식행동의 관계: 신체 비교와 인지왜곡의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 외모에 대한 사회문화적 영향과 여자 청소년의 이상섭식행동의 관계에서 신체 비교와 섭식관련 인지왜곡의 매개효과를 검증하고, 이 변인들 간의 관계를 검증하고자 하였다. 중학교와 고등학교에 재학하는 여자 청소년 550명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였고, 이 가운데 487명의 자료가 상관 분석과 구조방정식 모델 검증을 위해 사용되었으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상관분석 결과, 사회문화적 영향, 신체 비교, 섭식관련 인지왜곡, 이상섭식행동 간에 유의미한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 둘째, 사회문화적 영향과 이상섭식행동의 구조모형을 검증한 결과, 외모에 대한 사회문화적 영향은 신체비교와 인지왜곡, 그리고 이상섭식행동에 직접적으로 영향을 미쳤으며, 사회문화적 영향은 섭식관련 인지왜곡을 매개로 간접적으로 이상섭식행동에 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 신체 비교는 이상섭식행동에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 섭식문제의 상담에서 인지 치료적 접근이 유용함을 시사한다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 한계 그리고 후속연구를 위한 제언에 대하여 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of body comparisons and cognitive distortions on the relationship between social-cultural influences for appearance and the problematic eating behaviors in adolescent girls. The subjects were 487 middle and high school students. Tripartite Influence Scale-Revised(TIS-R), Physical Appearance Comparison Scale(PACS), The Mizes Anorectic Cognition Scale(MACS) and Eating Attitude Test-26(EAT-26) were administered. The results were as follows: First, social-cultural influences, body comparisons, cognitive distortions and the problematic eating behaviors were positively correlated. Second, social-cultural influences for appearance had direct effects on body comparisons, cognitive distortions, and the problematic eating behaviors. Social-cultural influences for appearance had indirect effects through cognitive distortions on the problematic eating behaviors. However, body comparisons had no significant effects on the problematic eating behaviors. These results implicated the usefulness of the cognitive approaches on counseling of the problematic eating behaviors.
