근현대 제주 잡지의 지형과 특성

이 연구는 광복 이후부터 1980년까지 국내외에서 발간된 근현대 제주 잡지의 현황과 특성을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 최근까지 수집된 잡지 116종을 대상으로 시기별, 종별, 지역별 분포와 통시적 변화 양상을 통계적으로 분석하여, 제주 지역 잡지의 존재 형태와 특징을 규명하고자 하였다. 제주 잡지를 분석한 결과, 시기별 증감 추이는 시대적 변화에 따라 발행 비율이 점진적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, 특히 1970년대에 정점을 이루었다. 잡지 종별 편수는 공공잡지, 일반잡지, 학술지 순으로 나타났으며, 공공잡지 중에서는 기관지가 29종, 교지가 31종으로 확인되었다. 학문 분야별로는 문학 분야가 전체 59종(59.6%)으로 가장 높은 비중을 차지했고, 그 다음으로 사회과학 분야가 21종(21.2%)로 나타났다. 문학 잡지의 장르별 편수는 기타가 46종(78%)으로 가장 많은 비중을 차지했으며, 그 다음으로 시가 10종(16.9%)으로 나타났다. 기타 장르는 시, 산문, 논단, 번역문이 혼합된 교지, 동인지, 회지, 기관지 등으로 구성되어 있었다. 또한 제주 잡지 116종의 지역별 분포 현황을 살펴보면, 제주와 서귀포 지역이 107종(92.1%)을 차지하여, 제주 잡지 발간이 주로 이 두 지역에서 많이 이루어졌음을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 제주 지역 잡지의 발간 현황과 특성을 확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 그러나 보다 정확하고 포괄적인 연구를 위해서는 아직 발굴되지 않은 제주 잡지의 실재를 확인하고 그 실체를 확정하는 과정이 더욱 철저하고 적극적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the status and characteristics of modern and contemporary Jeju magazines published in Korea and abroad from the post-liberation period to 1980. To this end, 116 magazines collected until recently were statistically analyzed for their distribution by period, type, and region, as well as their temporal changes, in order to identify the existence and characteristics of Jeju magazines. The analysis of Jeju magazines showed that the number of magazines increased gradually over time, with a peak in the 1970s. The number of magazines by type was in the order of public magazines, general magazines, and academic magazines, and among the public magazines, 29 were identified as organ magazines and 31 as school magazines. By field of study, the literature field accounted for the highest proportion of 58 magazines (59.3%), followed by the social science field with 21 magazines (21.4%). As for the number of literary magazines by genre, the other accounted for the largest proportion with 46 types (79.3%), followed by poetry with 10 types (17.2%). The others category consisted of school journals, coterie magazines, society bulletins, and institutional bulletins that combined poetry, prose, critiques, and translations. The regional distribution of the 116 Jeju magazines showed that 107(92.1%) were published in Jeju and Seogwipo, indicating that most Jeju magazine publications were concentrated in these two areas. This study is significant in that it identified the publication status and characteristics of magazines in Jeju. However, for a more accurate and comprehensive study, the process of identifying and confirming the existence of Jeju magazines that have not yet been unearthed should be more thorough and active.
