Abstract
A new vegetable peanut variety Bakjung(Arachis hypogaea L.) was developed from the cross between Shindaekwang and Suwon94 at the Honam Agricultural Research Institute and Yongnam Agricultural Research Institute, National Institute of Crop Science in 2003. This variety belongs to shinpung type with erect growth habit in plant, large size in kernels and dark green color in leaves. This variety has two kernels with red testa color in each pod and its 100-kernel weight was 83 g. The number of pods per was 256 pods and the shelling percentage was 73%. Resistance to disease of Cercosporium arachidicola rated 3.0 in the field condition. The vegetable peanut yield potential of Bakjung" was 12% greater than that of Daekwang producing 7,730kg/ha. This variety would be registered as a new variety for all over the peanut cultivation area except mountainous area of Kangwon province of Korea.
