Abstract
Background As IVIS evolves to be multi functional, advanced user interaction of desktop UI is needed to deal with complex information. Methods In this study, A prototype of input device which is suitable for IVIS UI was developed with non-user trial methods. We adopted Buxton's 3-state model and Keystroke Level Model as modeling tools to evaluate input devices in IVIS UI. Result The prototype was built with the Arduino UNO and touch sensors wired to physical dummy keypad. Operation of the prototype is simulated on a PC screen. It provides visual cues in advance by displaying touched keys before pressing them. And tactile feedback is available by touching physical keys mapped to virtual keys on the screen. Conclusion The prototype adopted 2 dimensional input method to reduce keystrokes for performing given task and 3-state model to minimize input errors. Results from analyzing by 3-state model and KLM tells the prototype is suitable for IVIS UI.
