Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating appropriateness for user interaction of IVIS(In-Vehicle Information System) by modeling and comparing operational sequence of each input device. 5 representative types of input devices were selected for test : wheel, wheel with 4-arrow keys, joystick, touch screen, and mouse which represents desktop UI. Operational sequence was divided into several operators according to types of input devices. And total number of strokes of each operators were recorded while performing the given task. The input device using wheel component showed the longest operational sequence and touch screen showed the shortest. Mouse was the second to the shortest. When using the mouse, moving to next step follows selection and input operation automatically. And there are no interruption of operation between hands on and off because cursor keeps the last position. If problems occurring while using in vehicle are solved, the mouse will be an appropriate solution for input device of IVIS.
