오늘날 지식정보는 사람과 사람, 매체와 매체, 국가와 국가, 문화와 문화간의 ‘사이’를 자유롭게 넘나들며 우리 시대를 이해하는 중요한 열쇠로까지 논정(論定)되고 있다. 지식을 더 많은 사람들과 공유하기 위해 정보공시가 필요하다는국내외적 요구는 이러한 지식의 변화를 반영한 결과라 할 수 있다. 그런데 이러한지식의 디지털화와 정보화는 창의적 지식생산의 본래 목적에 부합한다고 간주하기어렵고, 지식의 공적 사용과 향유에도 위배된다고 할 수 있다. 지식의 디지털화와정보화가 오히려 지식의 독점화라는 역설을 낳고 있으며, 이는 곧 새로운 유형의지식의 식민화라 볼 수 있다. 질 들뢰즈의 ‘지리철학’ 개념이며, 조너선 색스의 ‘문화적 특수성’, 클리포드 기어츠의 ‘지식의 장소성’에 대한 논의가 적지 않은 사람들로부터 설득력을 얻는 이유가 여기에 있다. 지식, 특히 인문지식은 자연과학적 지식이나 기술적 지식과 달리 문화적 로컬리티를 모태로 생산되고 소비된다는 특징이있다. 예나 지금이나 동서사상 간에 ‘간발적 교류’가 원활하지 않았던 것도 이 때문이다. 양자 간에 가로놓인 문화적 장벽이나 지식 격차가 디지털시대가 되었음에도 불구하고 극복되기 쉽지 않은 것도 같은 이유 때문이다. 따라서 서구유럽의 지역지(savoir local)가 마치 보편지나(savoir universel) 세계지(savoir global)처럼 포장돼 문화적 개입을 일삼는 것은 정당화될 수 없다. 지식이 글로벌 강자들의 지배의 논리로 전락하거나 지식의 식민화를 정당화하는 무기로 사용되어서는 곤란하다. 모름지기 지식은 온 인류에게 유익한 공공재, 인류재로서의 역할을 수행하는데 그본질이 있다는 것을 잊어선 안 된다. ‘글로컬 시대’를 맞이해 지식의 공공성, 즉 지식의 공적 공유가 얼마나 중요하고 시급한지를 우리 모두가 되새겨보아야 할 때다.
Abstract
The knowledge information has been regarded as a primal concept of thisera across persons, nations, and cultures, and the information disclosure whichpursues to share knowledge with more people, has been requested globally,which reflects the change of the knowledge as a whole. In this respect, thedigitalization and informationalization of knowledge have been highlighted as arealizing apparatuses, however the phenomena would not be accord with theoriginal purpose of knowledge production, by extension, it would be against thepublic use and enjoyment of knowledge. Paradoxically, the digitalization andinformationalization of knowledge arrives at the monopolization of knowledge, itis not different from the colonization of knowledge. It is the reason why Gilles Deleuze’s Geo-philosophy, Jonathan Sacks’sCultural specialty and Clifford Geertz’s Placeness of knowledge are quiteconvincing. The characteristic of knowledge, especially humanities knowledgethat produced and consumed at cultural locality, is obviously different from thatof scientific and technical knowledge. This might be the major reason that theexchange of philosophy between the East and the West is incommensurate witheach other for long time, and it is not surprising that the cultural barriers andknowledge gap between both sides are hard to overcome even in this digitalage. In this paper, in this regard, it is argued that it cannot be simply justifiedthat western local knowledge which disguises the universal and globalknowledge, intervenes and distort other cultures. Knowledge cannot be utilizedas a weaponry of the powerful countries which promote and justify thecolonization of knowledge. The knowledge should fulfill the role as a publicgoods for all mankind and be helpful. In this respect, we should reconsider thesignificance of publicness of knowledge, the public sharing of knowledge in thisglocal age.
