이 연구의 목적은 신어 조사의 대상이 되는 자료에 대한 대표성과 균형성 확보, 온라인 뉴스 말뭉치를 넘어선 신어의 수집 필요성에 대한 실증적 근거를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 2022년 7월부터 2023년 6월까지의 온라인 뉴스 기사들을 토대로 선정한 2023년 신어 250개를 대상으로 온라인 뉴스(5대 일간지)와 네이버 블로그에서의 출현 양상을 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신어를 최초 출현 매체별로 살펴보면, 블로그에서 먼저 출현한 신어가 전체의 192개(76.80%)로 가장 많은 수를 차지하며, 블로그와 뉴스에서 동시에 나타난 신어는 38개(15.20%)이고, 뉴스에서 먼저 출현한 경우는 20개(8%)에 불과하였다. 또한, 뉴스 말뭉치의 규모가 블로그 말뭉치보다 큼에도 불구하고 실제 신어를 관찰할 수 있을 가능성은 블로그가 훨씬 높음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 뉴스와 블로그별로 고빈도로 출현하는 신어의 어휘 의미적 경향성을 살펴보았다. 이 연구에서는 최초 출현일과 신어의 매체별 빈도 분석, 상대 출현 비율 분석 등을 통해 뉴스를 중심으로 한 신어 추출의 한계가 무엇인지 알 수 있었고, 공적‧사적 영역을 아우르는 블로그가 갖는 언어 확산을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또한, 블로그의 용례는 단순한 인용과 정의를 넘어선, 살아 있는 풍부한 용례를 제시한다는 점에서 신어의 기술과 확산의 과정을 탐구하는 데 의의가 있음을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 그간 많은 신어 연구자들이 언급해 온 매체 다양성을 고려한 신어 추출의 의의와 가능성을 최초로 시도했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to ensure the representativeness and balance of the data used for the investigation of neologisms and to provide empirical evidence for the necessity of collecting neologisms beyond online news corpora. For this purpose, we analyzed the occurrence patterns of 250 neologisms selected from online news articles from July 2022 to June 2023, focusing on both online news (from the five major daily newspapers) and Naver blogs. The findings of this study are as follows: First, in terms of the initial appearance of neologisms by media type, the majority, 192 neologisms (76.80%), first appeared on blogs, while 38 neologisms (15.20%) appeared simultaneously in both blogs and news, and only 20 neologisms (8%) appeared first in news outlets. Furthermore, despite the larger size of the news corpus compared to the blog corpus, the likelihood of observing neologisms was found to be significantly higher in blogs. Second, the study examined the lexical-semantic tendencies of high-frequency neologisms by media type, both in news and blogs. Through an analysis of the initial appearance dates and frequency of neologisms by media type, the study revealed the limitations of extracting neologisms primarily from news sources, and highlighted the role of blogs, which cover both public and private domains, in the dissemination of language. Moreover, blog examples were found to present living usage beyond mere quotations and definitions, adding further significance. This study is meaningful in that it is the first to explore the significance and potential of neologism extraction considering media diversity, an issue that has long been raised by many researchers of neologisms.
