소설 『토지』의 근대 형상화 방식 연구－ 토론, 사유, 신분 變移를 중심으로 －

Abstract

This paper investigated the method for the embodiment of early modern age in novel 『Land』. Novel 『Land』 established its background period form 19th century to japanese colonial period. This period is also the period that the modern age rushed to korea. Then how did the author embody the newly rushing modern age? This question is the reason for this study. I could see the three embodiment method in. First, dialogues which shaped anovel 『Land』s a discussion format are frequently identified. Characters state frankly their opinions against the object respectively. By the way, I could see a similarity between the contents of the discussions among characters and the early modern enlightenment discourse. The contents of dialogues shaped in discussion format were enlightening and persuasive. The second thing is the appearance of the characters of trying reasonable thinking. Especially, the thinking activities of characters are frequently appeared after part 3 and the contents are also long. Novel 『Land』 shows the various opinions about nation, korean race, class, female, japan and asia those were flowed in during modern age. Last, novel 『Land』 shows the features of modern age through the transition of socail position. A variety of classes are appeared in novel 『Land』. And they experiences transition of social position undergoing the latter era of the Choson Dynasty and japanese colonial age. It can be confirmed that how the people in those days accepted the modern age through the awareness of social position which were publically disappeared at that tinme but not disappeared conventionally at that time.
