Abstract

This study examines how the exhibitions and operations of the Museum of Korean Immigration History construct narratives of immigration from a gender perspective. By combining nine sentinel indicators with the RAI-3 (Lite) framework, all 368 items of the permanent exhibition and the guidance system were comprehensively coded, and a sequential mixed-methods approach was employed to link quantitative indicator results with qualitative interpretations of texts and images. The analysis shows that narratives centered on male labor and national development are predominant, while women’s voices and naming, the representation of care and migration networks, and multilingual and care-based accessibility remain relatively limited. Based on these findings, this study proposes an analytical framework that enables the joint assessment of exhibitions and operations across the dimensions of representation, accessibility, and implications, and recommends the expansion of multilingual guidance, improvements in care-sensitive circulation and facility information, and the establishment of regular evaluations grounded in gender-sensitive indicators. Although the analysis is limited to a single case, this analytical framework can be applied to gender evaluations of other museums, as well as to comparative and longitudinal analyses.
