본 연구는 남편의 일에 대한 지지라는 정서적 지지가 남편의 가사노동분담이라는 도구적 지지에 영향을 미쳐 여성의 경제활동 참여로 이어지는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 이에 본 연구는 9차 여성가족패널을 활용하여 가임기 여성과 그녀의 남편을 대상으로 SPSS Process macro model 4번 매개효과 모형을 분석하였다(N=1,611쌍). 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아내의 일에 대해 남편의 지지가 여성의 경제활동 참여를 유의미하게 높였다. 둘째, 아내의 일에 대한 남편의 지지는 자신의 가사노동 분담을 유의미하게 높았다. 셋째, 아내의 일에 대한 남편의 지지와 아내의 경제활동참여 간의 관계에 남편의 가사노동분담이 유의미하게 매개하였다. 넷째, 통제변수 가운데 미취학 및 취학 자녀 수와 남편의 월평균 임금이 여성의경제활동참여에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 분석결과에 기반하여 성평등 문화 조성 및 가사노동 분담에 대한 개입 방안을 논의하였으며, 이는 기혼여성의 경제활동참여 활성화를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine whether husbands’ support for their wives’ work (emotional support) is translated into husbands’ share of housework(instrumental support), which in turn is associated with women’s labor force participation. To analyze the mediating effect, Model 4 of the SPSS PROCESS macro was applied to data from 1,611 married couples consisting of wives and their hushands drawn from the ninth wave of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families (KLoWF). The key findings are as follows. First, greater support from husbands for their wives’ work was significantly associated with higher rates of labor force participation among married women. Second, husbands who were more supportive of their wives’ employment were significantly more likely to share housework. Third, husbands’ share of housework significantly mediated the relationship between husbands’ support and wives’ labor market participation. Fourth, among the control variables, the number of preschool- and school-aged children and husbands’ monthly earnings showed significant associations with wives’ labor force participation. Based on these findings, the study discusses implications for promoting gender-equal family norms and policy interventions aimed at encouraging a more equitable division of domestic labor. This research is expected to serve as a foundational reference for policies that seek to enhance married women’s economic participation.
