초록

The aims of the present study are to provide systematic review of family-focused prevention programs designed to reduce adolescent substance use at the universal level, and to identify common characteristics of programs having a long-term effect on reducing the incidence or prevalence of substance use. Nine universal family-focused youth substance use prevention programs that showed a significant intervention effect at one year or more than one year are reviewed. These programs shared 7 characteristics associated with program effectiveness, including the use of empirically supported theories, regularly scheduled curricular, focused on life skill development, and long-term interventions or booster programs. The findings suggest family-focused prevention is a viable strategy to reduce risks for adolescent substance use. Implications for social work practice and research are discussed.
